here is what I’ve learned over the years and through a few installs; If they are small speakers, they will sound small. Period. if you want a great full sound, you need to design the proper system and that means staging the speakers for the mid/high/lows. Unless you have room for 6x9 or larger drivers, don’t sweet the small stuff cause its not going to make a huge difference.

6.5” is all the front doors can handle according to a 8th gen civic forum.

Honda’s stock sound system is absolutely terrible. In any car.

I miss the JBL System in my Camry, it was goddamn amazing.

I went through this phase with an old toyota (my current old toyota sucks too, just not as hard) and I can tell you that spending coin on the quality of the speaker is the path of diminish returns. Get the sizes and powers right and then go from there. 6.5 will get you to a solid 100 hz, but nothing lower and unless your head unit has a low pass its not going to matter, it will be tricky to tune.

It doesn’t matter much. Bigger is generally better for car audio, and 3-way (or even 4-way) can give you a little more detail, but just not being factory paper cones is a decent step up. After that, going to a cheap 4x50 or 4x75 watt amp vs. trying to pull power through your receiver’s amp will make a pretty noticeable difference.

Generally speaking you’ll notice some improvement over stock with any of the cheap options you can find. That being said it depends on what you want.

if you just want to replace shitty nor blown stock speakers, these cheap options will probably suffice. The tech behind even budget speakers Is way better than it was a few years ago.

if your looking for accurate reproduction , or powerful highs to balance out an aftermarket bass set up, you most likely have an aftermarket head unit, and the cheap options almost never hold up. A decent head unit will push more power at max than really cheap speakers can handle.

so what is your intention in replacing the speakers? Simple stock replacement, those will do fine and it’s up to the look at that point.

Pretty much true. You can get a deeper bass response from aftermarket 6.5s and bigger, but that assumes a head unit that can power them adequately, and drivers that can move enough air to produce the lower freqs. Generally the cheap options are going to distort the mids and highs whenever they try to produce bass and therefor aren’t worth it if that’s the goal of the upgrade.

First im going to find out whats actually wrong with my wiring, my front speakers and tweeters dont work. My right turn signal works, but not when i unlock the car and it flashes all the lights. I assume thats related.

After i figure it out im replacing honda’s crappy stock front speakers. I’m scared to buy a new head unit because the ‘06 Honda Civic interior is super like “integrated”. It’s all like one peice, some good ol jvc or sony head unit will NOT fit in the Civic.

Kinja'd!!!

^ Almost exactly my interior minus the seats, and steering wheel material.

Also I have absolutley NO experience or know anything about car audio, but I want something similar to what I had on the Camry.

Honda’s head unit is like all integrated and shit, the popular mainstream JVC and sony or whatever ones don’t fit. It’s annoying as hell and I don’t know what to do.

Being completely inexperienced with car audio (really car anything) doesn’t help either

Yea if the speakers completely stopped working that might be cause for replacement lol. That being said if the both quit at the same time then the problem is in the head unit or wiring.

Wanted to ask what was wrong with them because a lot of people replace shitty stock paper cone speakers when the start rattling thinking that they are blown, when really the center dust caps just came loose and need re glued. Doesn’t seem like your issue though.

you would be surprised what Metra makes dash kits for these days. It looks like a single din would fit assuming the mounting kit had accommodation for the climate control. If your interested in replacing it at all, I suggest going to Crutchfields website and putting in your cars info. Then you can search for install kits and whatnot and see if any are specially made to match your dash. I usually use Crutchfield and their outfit my car thing to find what will fit in all the different placed and then shop around for cheaper prices on what I find.

but as far as the issue you’re having, I haven’t seen anything where the turn signal lights and speakers were related, but I have by no means seen everything. So i guess I’m not really that useful lol.

Thanks for the help! I’ll check out that site.

Yeah about 3-4 years ago the car got broken in when my mom was at a Maroon 5 concert. Speakers at the front haven’t worked since. I assume the theif must’ve fucked up hotwiring or something.

Get the nav unit / HVAC from a U-Pull it place, you can swap the audio unit out of those...

I’m personally in love with (And probably will buy) these:

http://www.amazon.com/JBL-GX602-2-Wa…

Not exactly cheap, but it’s the perfect start to getting the FR-s to acceptable audio quality.

If I was going cheap though, I’d probably go with:

JBL is on point. My Camry had the premium JBL Sound system equipped, it was goddamn amazing. It was so clean and crisp, and bass heavy. I was in love.

JBL makes amazing speakers, but I just spent some serious time at Best Buy the other day flipping through all the units seeing what’s changed and who’s still making great stuff. JBL, Alpine and Kenwood are still the best for ~6.5. Kicker was good, but I think they have fallen into Bose territory, good but not nearly good enough for their price (Subs excluded).

My local best buy is out of the car audio business. It’s very difficult to find help for that stuff these days.
I went to a Volkswagen-focused modifcation shop next to my work, and the owner kinda rekt me saying a bunch of stuff I couldn’t understand and basically telling me to get my car check first (which i already knew)

Rekt? Volkswagen? car check, as in not audio? What sort of stuff was he saying?

Are you in a real small town?

It was about a week ago but he started saying some technical stuff about a golf, I don’t remember. When I asked him about 6.5 inch speakers he basically said I should re do the whole audio because Honda has a terrible audio system. I also mentioned that my speakers don’t work but that’s not the reason I’m looking for new ones (I assume it’s a wiring mishap, my front speakers and tweeters don’t work. My right turn signal works, but not when I unlock the car. I assume this is part of the same problem.)

He said I should get that all figured out first before I come to him. But he said it in a codenscending way that made me feel like an idiot

I live in Mississauga, greater toronto area. It’s the 6th biggest city in Canada and Torontos neighbor. So big town.

I’m not a car audio expert, but I have recently went down this road when I had my Crosstrek. The factory system was severely lacking so I did some upgrades. I upgraded my door speakers to MB Quart ONX 116. They made a huge difference in the sound of the vehicle. That being said, the magnet in these was a little bit deeper so I needed a spacer in the door to fit the Crosstrek. I haven’t taken apart an 8th gen Civic to see what kind of space is there, so there’s a possibility you might have the same issue. The tweeters sucked too, so I replaced them with Polk DB 1001 tweeters. They didn’t fit at all so I had to cut apart the stock tweeter with a dremel in order to mount them. Obviously, this is a completely different car, so take it with a grain of salt. The audio in my '15 Civic is much better than the Subaru was, so I haven't seen the need to upgrade that yet. But, if I had to do it again I wouldn't hesitate to use these same speakers.
